Electric Heat
Metered Electric Heat Program: Member is required to install a heat submeter on the permanently installed heaters in the building. Typical installations are homes, shops, dairy or beef barns with electric heat. Program runs from October 1 to April 30 each year. The member receives a 2.0 cent discount on all heat kilowatt hours used between these dates. Heat is not turned off.
Dual Fuel Electric Heat Program: Member is required to have electric and fossil fuel heat adequate to heat the entire home with either source. Submeter needs to be installed for the electric heat and the electric heat is the main heat source of the home. The member receives a 2.5 cent discount on all heat kilowatt hours used between these dates. Heat is not turned off.
Electric Heat Programs Comparison to Fossil Fuels: Currently OME calculates the breakeven point between a 90% efficient propane furnace and the OME heat programs to be $0.77/gallon for the metered electric heat program and $0.67/gallon for the dual fuel program.
