R/O Systems

Reverse Osmosis is used on water that is microbiologically safe, and contains less than 0.1 ppm of iron, less than 2000 ppm total dissolved solids, and less than 10 grains per gallon of total hardness. This is why it is wise to use a reverse osmosis system in conjunction with a water softener. Reverse Osmosis works through a technique called membrane separation. Raw water enters a module housing the membrane element.

Normal water pressure, or boosted pressure, forces the water against the semi-permeable membrane and only clean water molecules pass through the pores in the membrane. Impurities are rejected and flushed away. When compared to distillers, a reverse osmosis system produces approximately the same purity of water (98%) as distillation at approximately 1/10 the cost, and the water tastes fresh and clean, where distilled water has a very flat taste due to the method of production.
